Watch: How KILT partnerships impact education in Knsyna
A look at how daily touchpoints, active partnerships and measured results create lasting impact across Knysna's schools.
Since 2017, KILT has invested in partnerships to build schools of choice over time, but what does this actually look like?
As it turns out, looking at impact stories along with the measured results presents a picture that is as honest as it is rewarding and insightful. By tracking touchpoints year-on-year, listening to the community, and responding to their needs and what the data tells us, we can see how change emerges in the everyday details:
- A classroom where reduced teacher-to-learner ratios provides space for more individual attention;
- A choice between after-school activities like LEGO Robotics or sport, or both;
- A family feeling genuinely supported in their child’s education;
- And a school leaver confident in a post-school pathway they’ve actively chosen.
At KILT, we partner with school leadership and teachers across 17 local schools, walking alongside more than 13,500 children and their families in Greater Knysna. This video, From Foundations to Futures, shows how these daily touchpoints impact a child’s entire school career and beyond, and how the whole community benefits.
Some highlights at a glance:
- KET’s Early learning support in Grade R has 75% of children on track in maths and 64% in language, laying a solid foundation.
- Funding 98 essential school posts brought average class ratios down to 1:33, while afterschool study clubs, sports, and counselling provide children a safe, grounded space to grow and opportunities to discover their future paths.
- Average matric pass rates across partner schools reached 92%, while university-ready Bachelor passes rose to 47% – helping guide young adults towards well-informed post-school opportunities.
- To keep early momentum going as schoolwork gets tougher, our next focus will deepen support across Grades 4 to 9 maths and language where learning demands shift.
Building schools of choice is about looking beyond the classroom and nurturing the whole life of the child.
