Funding for teachers

While the learner-teacher norm set by the Western Cape Education Department averages 40:1, this varies greatly depending on the subject taught. In practice, some classes have 50 or more learners. Some principals also identify security and basic administration as essential areas for improvement.KILT’s first priority has been to fund additional staff appointed by the principal for each school in School Governing Body (SGB) positions. In 2017 and 2018, KILT secured sufficient funding to enable the schools between them to appoint 41 teachers, 5 assistant teachers, and 26 general staff. These numbers will be expanded as funding becomes available.
